Lucia Tolentino is a painter who suffered an stroke that took her voice and right hand moviments away. She learned how to paint with her left hand and is doing a wonderfull work that shows us that there is always a way to re-start and be happy.

“…and that’s why I have to go back to so many places in the future, there to find myself and constantly examine myself with no witness but the moon and then whistle with joy, ambling over rocks and clods of earth, with no task but to live, with no family but the road.”

Pablo Neruda

Do you know Rrose Sélavy?

No? Humm… Eros, c’est la vie… arroser la vie…

Rrose, my dear, is a creation of three provocative artistic figures from 20th century’s early years. Man Ray, Marcel Duchamp and Francis Picabia were good friends with the same sense of humour,  bits of will to shock, some freakness and a lot of creativity. This explosive mixture established artistic norms and made a turning point in the world of art at that time.

Dadaism, surrealism, ready made art (is the urinal placed in a museum other than in a loo a piece of art?), Man Ray and his X-Ray experiences, non-sensism, provocation and all that comes along made that fantastic exhbition at Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya.

In collaboration with the Tate Modern.

Visca Barcelona!!! September 22, 2008

One of the best things in Barcelona are, undoubtely, the non-stop cultural offers going on around the city. From last Friday until 28th we’re taken over by Mercè’s celebrations, the catalan capital’s major party. Everywhere you go there’s a stage, an artist, some kind of cultural manifestation - from a Primal Scream (free-gratis!) concert and a Richie Hawtin (free-gratis!)  gig, to a couple of mimics or clowns playing around with unadvised tourists. Every single taste can be pleased.

Seems like despite all the polemic around “The Barcelona Effect”, the claimed cultural fakeness of this city, still the ayuntamiento cares about their people. And the best of it: the population take part in it.

Yesterday, on the top of Montjuic…

“Quizás no hay nada mas que buscar
en la vida que estos sencillos momentos?”

Athanasia Michalopoulus is the main artist in this small castle of fantasy. She owns an antique store in the romantic village of Oia (Santorini), a place famous for the most beautiful sunsets in the world . The inside decoration is all made of antique furniture to sell, jewellery and giant hand-made marionettes by Athanasia. IMPERDÍVEL!!!

Chemically happy (is the new sad) - is the brilliant name of Unbending Trees next album featuring (equally brilliant) Tracey Thorn. The female half of Everything But the Girl is now releasing some singles on her Myspace.  The CD is out on 6th October.

Cheers, Majom! ;)
