Hype elections October 31, 2008

These American elections are a hype – and this much is true. And Obama t-shirts seem to be the object of desire of every celeb who wants to show they care about their nation and the future of the world (yes…we must admit it…).

How to warm up a dancefloor October 22, 2008

There are very few DJs who understand the art of warming-up, and indeed, it is an art.

Here are some tips by Swedish DJ Joel Mull on Beatportal:

1) Know who’s playing before and after you
2) Take it easy, no peaks
3) The longer the better
: a warm up set shouldn’t be rushed
4) Connect with people
5) Prepare, prepare, prepare. You need to play the right music for the right room.
6) Don’t play big tracks. Your job is to set the mood for the headliner to play the floorfillers.
7) No songs and more drums. Stay away from big breakdowns and try to find music that is more stripped back and percussive
8 ) Organise your music
9) Don’t rush mixes. It’s about creating a smooth ride that evolves over time.
10) Use technology, wisely
11) The size of the room matters. Big rooms = energetic music. Basements = spacey minimal, FX and drums
12) Closing tracks. Try not to close with a track that is hands in the air, do it with a track that’s a bit flat, with nothing too noticeable about it and easy to mix.
13) Patience. The room might be full, the crowd might be asking you to play it harder, but you should hold back the urge to bang it
14)  Hypnotize. If you can get people to close their eyes and really feel the music, you’ve done a superb job. Try to close those eyes.

Anything to add? :)

iD your Nike (if you can) October 21, 2008

Be unique! Express yourself!
Match the colours you like (nevermind if it’s pink+red ou black+navy!) with the patterns you fancy. The first Nike iD shop in Spain is located right in the heart of the Gothic area, in Barcelona. Colours and modernity contrasting with the grey and old style architecure of Carrer Call, two blocks away from Plaza Jaume. You customize your trainners (the more fluo the better - and this is THE trend in Europe right now!), they make your dream come true on a Mac screen and send it off to your place. (At least this is what might happen if you’re lucky enough to have any staff member giving you the attention necessary.)

Be unique! Express yourself!

The Lost Negatives… October 20, 2008

London’s Barbican Art Gallery brings for the photograph addicteds most of the Robert Capa and Gerda Taro’s lost negatives about the spanish civil war found recently in mexico after 70 years of desapearing!

Robert Capa is an Hungarian war photographer who was in Spain, from 1936 to 1939, photographing the horrors of the Spanish Civil War. Taro, his girlfriend, was the first woman known to shoot pictures in battle and the first to die in action. Many of Capa’s photographs of the Spanish Civil War were, for many decades, presumed lost, but surfaced in Mexico City in the late 1990s and now you can see them at the Barbican on the “Mexican Suitcase”: THIS IS WAR and ON THE SUBJECT OF WAR exhibitions, until January 25th.

You can book your ticket at: http://www.barbican.org.uk/
