If you’re reading this post right now, blame Sónar. The Festival Internacional de Música Avanzada y Arte Multimedia de Barcelona was the birthplace of what is today Soma in Kinderland. Viva el Sónar!!! It’s our favourite festival of all and not only for that. Those who’ve been, know it’s unique in all conceptions. The inspiration for this year’s edition is snow and surrealism. The line up is more electronic than ever, with recent announced master Carl Craig, classic Orbital making a comeback, Deadmau5, Jeff Mills, Erol Alkan and Grace Jones, herself, to name but a few. A space for kids, SónarKids, makes its début, as attendees to the festival over the past 16 years have grown and reproduced. We saw lots of kids last year and the year before during Sónar de Día at MACBA.
According to our Italian mates who make it all happen, the kids attraction will include renowned Spanish and international artists who will adapt their styles to their younger audience, with numerous activities to awaken and stimulate their creativity. SónarKids is designed for children to learn by enjoying music and art in a way that they probably haven’t done yet. Sónar has taken its audience into account, and will be using a sound system suitable for children’s hearing, as well as installing a range of facilities (play area, picnic area, bar) so that both parents and children can rest and enjoy the SónarKids experience in full comfort.
And the circuit off-Sónar is already shaping up. More info coming up, kids. Meanwhile, check Sink‘s very first post (and one of our fave, we must admit) on Sónar 2008.
