University of The People May 22, 2009

logo_t2UoPeople  is the first TUITION-FREE + NON- PROFIT +  ONLINE + UNIVERSITY,  dedicated to the global advancement and democratization of higher education.

UoPeople represents a new wave in global education. In fact, China View said that during the last two days, 27 students from 20 different Chinese cities and towns  registered with UoPeople.  Currently, about 200 students from over 51 countries are enrolled in the only two undergraduate programs the university offers — Computer Science and Business Administration.

Reshef’s mission, the Israeli entrepreneur behinds the idea of UoPeople,  is to create a free university for students all over the world. He  hopes to expand the program to include 15,000 students in four years.

UoPeople, which has the backing of the United Nations’ Global Alliance for Information and Communications Technology (GAID), incorporates a pedagogical model which draws on e-learning, social networking coupled with open-source technology.

“Secretsundaze has changed the face of daytime clubbing.”
(Time Out)

Over its six-year history secretsundaze has gained a reputation as one of the most innovative, exciting and fun places to be for house and techno heads and party people alike. Utilising numerous risqué and often open-air venues, they have hosted some of the most colourful parties that London has seen in recent years. With their stylish, hedonistic crowd and their attention to detail on the production side, the parties now have the reputation as being the place that Europe’s finest underground DJs want to play at and Europeans visiting London have to go to. Over the years, the likes of Ame, Ricardo Villalobos, Carl Craig, Tobi Neumann, Trevor Jackson, Luciano, Dan Ghenacia and Steve Bug have all graced the decks.

Next party on 24th May, next Sunday, at the Ministry of Sound courtyard (2-10pm) and, later on (10pm-4am),  at the Coronet Theatre. Secretsundaze opening party photos above  by Dan Hill and fans from their Facebook group page.

Grandma Graffitti May 18, 2009

From SinK‘s urban interventions series:

Knitta began in August 2005, when the soon-to-be-Knittas were discussing their frustration over unfinished knitting projects: half-knitted sweaters and balls of yarn gathering dust. That afternoon, they knit their first door handle. Then it dawned on them… a tag crew of knitters, bombing the inner city with vibrant, stitched works of art, wrapped around everything from beer bottles on easy nights to public monuments and utility poles on more ambitious outings. With a mix of clandestine moves and gangsta rap — Knitta was born! Today, Knitta is a group of ladies of all ages, nationalities, and… gender”

Well, well… we haven’t got much to say about the Oasis concert, besides highlighting their burocracy and bad mood, which was sort of expected. They’d rather be anywhere in the world BUT on the stage in Curitiba. All in all, according to Liam Gallagher, Oasis is the first rock band that ever played in this “town”. LOL. (Note: Curitiba has 2,5 million people. What’s the population of Manchester, the “town”, again?)  It’s now crystal clear why the audience threw stuff at them during their concert in São Paulo, a “town” of 22 million people. A 90-minute boring performance, very few hits from those we were willing to listen to and a lot of bad humour and unsuccessful sarcasm. We were glad that most people who paid almost R$200, many of whom struggling, as it could easily represent half their wage, didn’t understand English. Ignorance is bliss. And we don’t need decadent rock stars messing around. Boooo! Go home!
