Colours and colours, strong and spread… following a lack of order that gives us the permission to dare.

Lucila Iotti, a shoe designer from Buenos Aires, mixed it all getting a very 7o’s result. Do you remember your mommy’s shoes, those that disappeared when you were a kid?  Well… somehow they are back. Now you can find them at Lucila’s store, of course, at Palermo Soho, “la créme de la créme”.

And if colours are not on your feet, they can be on your face… just don’t forget this summer to embrace the hallucinogenic pattern. Orange, mint, pink and purple are our bet for the next collections.

Trend #3: mint green August 29, 2009

Mint green on nails (creamy and pastel, by MAC and Chanel), clothes of course, shoes and style magazines (bi-annual Conde Nast’s publication Love Magazine).  We love it… especially on the nails.

Trend #2: plaid shirts August 28, 2009

Remember your Nirvana-Pearl-Jam–Alice-in-Chains days? Courtney–Love-meets-Mary-Queen-of-the-Scots style is back on.

Isabel Mesa, from WGSN, picks: Levi’s vibrant reds, Hollister and Abercrombie’s plaids:

No news. Plaid’s been around for some seasons, as SinK published exactly one year ago

Trend #1: cut-off denim August 27, 2009

Today we kick off a series of WGSN‘s top trends for the season, compiled during an exclusive web seminar presented this morning by Isabel Mesa, manager of Spain and Portugal.

Do it yourself:

1. Put a pair of old jeans into a bathtub full of water with the amount of bleach you desire in it. This amount depends on how light or dark you want your cut-offs.

2. Let the jeans soak for about a half hour to an hour (once again, depends on how much bleach you put in)

3. Take the jeans out and throw them in the dryer for about one hour. If they’re a little damp, don’t worry, you can work fine with them.

4. Use tough scissors to cut off the legs until you get to your desired length.

5. Fray the bottom edges and around the sides and the front and back pocket openings with scissors or a pocket knife.

6. Fray the actual fabric up and down fast and hard to get a rough look, using sandpaper.

And talking about cool cakes, if your party is big, how about a 3D cake? Cake artist? Is there such a thing? Well… yes, there is. And heading the field is Rachel Mount, who does a nice line in retro designs. Mount is London’s leading cake artist, her sculptures have been exhibited at the Royal Academy Of Arts and Sotheby’s. These features lead to commissions designing birthday cakes for UK Vogue’s 90th Anniversary and Spanish Vogue’s 20th Anniversary. Nhãmi nhãmi (for the eyes and stomach!)

Innocent office August 27, 2009

A tour of Fruit Towers, the West London office of Innocent, creators of the famous smoothies. Another example of funky workplace and  up-to-the-minute working philosophy. To serve as inspiration.

Coolpcakes August 26, 2009

Cupcakes are small cakedesigned to serve one person, frequently baked in a small, thin paper cup. Popular in the US, Canada, Australia and Britain since 19th century, the little treats are becoming a gastronomy craze in Brazil. The vibrant colours and the creative (or personalised) design make them fun to be served in all kinds of events, from  relaxed get-togethers to posh weddings.  Love Cupcakes, in São Paulo, makes lovely ones. Take a glimpse at their Flickr page and fall in love too. They’re little pieces of art. In Buenos Aires, go to Palermo Cupcakery; in Curitiba, we recommend Pinky’s Cupcakes. Below, fashion cupcakes made by designer Lisa Edsalv and shot by photographer Therese Aldgard. Too pretty to eat but too yummy to pass away.

“Just when you think that Brazil must surely have exhausted its supply of irresistibly jazzy, funky, sexy, soulful electro-pop singer-songwriters, someone like CéU comes along and makes you think that maybe that particular well is bottomless after all.”

Show da CéU, sexta-feira, 28/08, no John Bull Music Hall em Curitiba. + info AQUI! Imperdível e absolutamente recomendado.

Fancy a Snog? August 23, 2009

Basically, Snog sells frozen yogurt in London’s SoHo. If we go a bit further, however, we see that it’s another smart brand that has realised what retail is all about nowadays: hooking people with an involving and over-the-top shopping experience based on product + concept – or the other way around . Check their website, it’s as refreshing as the store concept, and follow Snog on Twitter: @ifancyasnog
