London Fashion Week September 21, 2009

Our lovely Portuguese-living-in-London friend Mariana Mineiro (remember her, from Sónar?) is working at London Fashion Week, from where she has just sent  some fab pix. (Yes, she’s one cool chick!). You can see below Anna Wintour, the infamous Vogue America editor, having a lonely first row moment (Aww…bless her…); and Scott Schumann aka The Sartorialist during the autograph session to his new book entitled – surprise! – The Sartorialist!!!. She told SinK she had to queue for two looong hours to have her  book autographed by the, her words, super friendly photographer – the world’s  most influential fashion blogger. Totally worth it, Mari!  (Crickey, we’re jealous!)

Warung in the Jungle September 21, 2009

And Warung flew last week thousands of kilometres from its homeland, Camboriú, to Manaus, the Amazon capital, for another stop of the project Warung Tour. The rave took place at Hotel Tropical, an amazing building carved in the middle of the largest forest on the planet.  Who played? Brazilian Daniel Kuhnen and Brit Rowan Blades. What a breathtaking scenario for a par-tee!

It’s important to note some cultural differences between the North, where Manaus is, and the South, where Camboriú (and us!) is situated. Our country has dimensions of a continent  and the regions and the culture differ in the same proportion. Differently from most European countries, Brazil is industrial and cold below; hot and  turistic above. The club scene is strongly  developed down here since late 80′s/early 90′s, whereas the North is best known for hosting some of the biggest and most incredible regional and folklorical parties in the world,  like Parintins and infamous Carnival in Bahia. Gathering 2,000 people to an electronic music event until the early hours is a great achievement. Thumbs up, boyz!
