To understand a city look around, up, down, to the right and to the left. Rather than the fauna and the flora, you should be connected to what every little detail means.

Observing: what a nice experience!

E aproveitando o ensejo…

Fyi: In Portuguese, PLAID is the “xadrez” you wear and CHESS is the “xadrez” you play.

So…

O quê?/ What? Tabuleiros de xadrez de madeira feitos à mão /Handmade wooden chess boards.

Onde/ Where? Marili’s Company, Firenze, Italia

Por quê/ Why? Porque beleza interior também conta, sabe?/ Because inner beauty also counts, you know…

Do you wanna get punky with me? August 8, 2008

1,2,3,4: get your Syd & Nancy outfit from the time you were not more than an idealistic teenager fancying a Camden-Town-Picaddlly-Circus punk lifestyle. The biggest trend for this autmn is the classical and punky pattern (that we love!), immortalised by Burberry and explored by every single high street and designer boutique around Europe right now. The tones are red and black, of course, with blue, white and green touch.

Hey babe, this fall you’d BETTER take a walk on the punk side.

INTERNATIONAL HERALD TRIBUNE

Brazil grows as larger economies struggle:

FORTALEZA, Brazil: Desperate to escape her hand-to-mouth existence in one of Brazil’s poorest regions, Maria Benedita Sousa used a small loan five years ago to buy two sewing machines and start her own business making women’s underwear.

Today Sousa, a mother of three who started out working in a jeans factory making minimum wage, employs 25 people in a modest two-room factory that produces 55,000 pairs of cotton underwear a month. She bought and renovated a house for her family and is now thinking of buying a second car. Her daughter, who is studying to be a pharmacist, could be the first family member ever to finish college.

“You can’t imagine the happiness I am feeling,” Sousa, 43, said from the floor of her business, “Big Mateus,” named after a son. “I am someone who came from the countryside to the city. I battled and battled, and today my children are studying, with one in college and two others in school. It’s a gift from God.”

Today her country is in a position much like hers. Brazil, South America’s largest economy, is finally poised to realize its long-anticipated potential as a global player, economists say, as the country rides its biggest economic expansion in three decades…

Where? Sa Trinxa – Las Salinas – Ibiza

Why? We all have seen a pair of beach swing many times… till now nothing new. The point is… why people don’t dare to try to play it and move more at the beach? Ok, lazy mornings fainted under the sun are delicious, but moving gives the complete wellness sensation you can reach in this perfect scenary. Those swings are specially made on yarn, in worderful colors and the lovely couple who make them also teach you how to play. One of the nicest buys in Ibiza for 20 euros.

Veremos.

How to build a country
Dubai is said to have between 15 and 25% of world’s cranes; more than 20,000 buildings are under construction in a country where only 6% of GDP comes from oil. Some bet it’s the new Las Vegas. We’ll see.
