Taking off? February 5, 2010

Ok, it’s Friday and we’re melting in Curitiba. Some are already off to the beach, some are hitting the road just now while others are still dreaming about  last weekend at Warung. Do you wanna know why? Well… if you ever been there, you probably know what we’re talking about. If never… then, all I can say is: go as fast as you can! To make up some people’s mind and put a sweet taste in others mouth, SinK publishes some pictures of Solomun’s amazing night on Jan. 29th, the top-top of Brazilian summer…

Nightshots … ready to take off ? So, … 1…

2 .. 3 …

Here we go…

Enough??? No way… back inside! Solomun is still playing.

Happy anniversary to our favourite dancefloor! November 5, 2009

Mighty Warung celebrates 7 years absolutely consolidated as Brazil’s top  dancefloor for  music-oriented clubbers. Randoms? Erm…No, thanks. The world’s best djs restlessly praise the half-in-the-jungle half-on-the-beach dancefloor. Useless to describe, gotta see it with your own eyes.

Flowers & Poetry in the land of freedom October 23, 2009

For those who don’t know, this song is a huge classic of Brazilian (counter)culture, being released in 1968, during the terrible militar dictatorship that ended in 1984. The lyrics by Geraldo Vandré are a true poem against the violence and censorship imposed to several artists, including himself, at the darkest period of Brazilian recent history. The song, called “Pra Não Dizer Que Não Falei das Flores”, won an international music contest in the same year despite its prohibition for allegedly  being “disrespectful to the military government”.  Luciano and Ricardo Villalobos played this remix at Cocoon closing party, last month at Amnesia, Ibiza. Goose bumps. Via Daniel Kuhnen.

And we’ve recently (a couple of hours ago, actually) found out the real and amazing story behind this tune. Check this out:

Warung in the Jungle September 21, 2009

And Warung flew last week thousands of kilometres from its homeland, Camboriú, to Manaus, the Amazon capital, for another stop of the project Warung Tour. The rave took place at Hotel Tropical, an amazing building carved in the middle of the largest forest on the planet.  Who played? Brazilian Daniel Kuhnen and Brit Rowan Blades. What a breathtaking scenario for a par-tee!

It’s important to note some cultural differences between the North, where Manaus is, and the South, where Camboriú (and us!) is situated. Our country has dimensions of a continent  and the regions and the culture differ in the same proportion. Differently from most European countries, Brazil is industrial and cold below; hot and  turistic above. The club scene is strongly  developed down here since late 80′s/early 90′s, whereas the North is best known for hosting some of the biggest and most incredible regional and folklorical parties in the world,  like Parintins and infamous Carnival in Bahia. Gathering 2,000 people to an electronic music event until the early hours is a great achievement. Thumbs up, boyz!

Keep it deep… and lovely August 15, 2009

The mix is inspired by the early hours of a deep club night, when the magic is going to be built up and everything is open. I selected old and new all-time faves, deep and danceable – just lovely music.”

Enough said, now go for it: http://www.residentadvisor.net/podcast-episode.aspx?id=161
One of the best deep house mixes SinK has listened to in quite a while.
Thank you R.A. for bringing back our hope in dance music.
Have a deep and lovely weekend everyone.
