Soma in Kinderland TV is on air! August 9, 2009

As part of our plans of world domination, SinK has created Soma in Kinderland TV, a channel on Youtube where you can watch our homemade videos, absolutely amateur and unpretentious, about the stuff we like to write about, which means, a little bit of everything. We’ve uploaded 8 videos to kick off. The philosophy is that if we recorded them at some point in the past, it’s because we thought it might be useful at some point in the future. Got it?

SinK TV is on! Tune in!

You can watch by now stunning shaky images of (all links!)

- Massive Attack performing live The Hymn of The Big Wheel in Barcelona
- Dj Leozinho spinning his vinyls at Warung last Friday,
- a quick tour (very quick!) at Blue Marlin in Ibiza,
- Bob Sinclair playing World Hold On at Pacha Ibiza,
- Erlend Oye singing (and complaining) at Era Só o Que Faltava in Curitiba,
- DJ Sneak housing it at Lovebox Festival in London
- DJ Bill Brewster dropping nu disco tunes on a dancefloor sponsored by Rizla also at Lovebox,
- a real step class in the middle of The Egg’s dancefloor in London.

This last one being the weirdest thing ever seen in a club. And this, meus amigos, is just the beginning.

Don’t forget that your participation is more than welcome, kids! If you have any cool video you’d like to share with the world, for any reason we won’t judge, send them over! Our email is somainkinderland@gmail.com. Subject to approval, bien sur.

Festival fever July 27, 2009

Music festivals are as part of the summer in Europe as sunburnt cheeks. From late May to early October all bands and djs that matter have gigs booked at some open air party from Croatia to Scotland. There’s a festival fever in the air.

The pink press is in charge of the celebrity gossips, their (mis)behaviour, excesses, flirting and so on; Vogue picks the best festival looks (we’re used to see stylish chicks in Hunter wellies, especially in England, where summer can be very wet); the shops carry out “festival sales”; the brands work on another creative action to reach the young high-standard and desired audience that is not worried about money once they’ve crossed the main entrance. There’s even a festival-specialised store in London called Marsh-mellow that sells  from tickets to tents.

Festivals are the perfect opportunity for trend hunting, style shooting, meeting people, misbehaving, celebrating life-love-friends, dressing up and getting wasted (!).  Take a look at our selection of Lovebox’s colour pictures and get the feeling!

Lovebox in black & white July 26, 2009

Last Saturday and Sunday London had its Lovebox weekender at Victoria Park. The 9th edition (SinK’s first) had sun and rain and sun and rain – in this order – and the Brit restless party spirit that we love so much. Nobody in this world parties like them!!

Two big stages for big and not so big names (Duran Duran, N*E*R*D aka Pharrell Williams, Friendly Fires, Groove Armada, etc.), three amazing electronic instalations by secretsundaze; Disco Bloodbath/ Horse  Meat Disco; and a Rizla into-the-woods space with Xpress-2, Diplo, Bill Brewster and Frank Broughton, Dan Black, etc. Long queues to get in and a lovely disco and funky house vibe.  Amusement park and a Mexico area playing live band and mariachis, with folk Mexican characters and José Cuervo free hats. Coming out from the speakers basically (and thanks God for that!) nu disco, old disco and all kinds of deep funky soulful beats.

Happiness on the dancefloor is no longer a trend; it’s real. All in all, it’s all about feel-good music and having fun, playing around, put your fluo make up on, your wellies and do the d.a.n.c.e.!

In this first coverage, gorgeous black & white photos by Nick Ensing.  Enlarge for proper appreciation!

Disco and vinyls: what a lovely way to boogie! :-)

Visit Nick’s website: www.nickensing.com. Book and exhibition coming up. Cheers, Nick!

The Burning Man June 25, 2009

The Burning Man Project  is an annual art & music event and temporary community based on radical self-expression and self-reliance in the Black Rock Desert of Nevada, every August. Much more than just a temporary gathering of people, it’s a true pop-up city in the middle of the desert. Innovative sculptures, installations, performance, theme camps, art cars and costumes all flower and spread out to the community.

In the words of Molly Steenson during the festival: ” You belong and you participate. You’re not the weirdest kid in the classroom — there’s always somebody there who’s thought up something you never even considered. You’re there to breathe art. Imagine an ice sculpture emitting glacial music — in the desert. Imagine the man, greeting you, neon and benevolence, watching over the community. You’re here to build a community that needs you and relies on you.”

You’re there to survive. You have to bring enough food, water and shelter because you will find no vending whatsoever.  You are there to create, since nobody at Burning Man is a mere spectator. You are there to experience, find your love and understand each other.  You go to celebrate and you’ll leave as you arrive. When you depart from Burning Man, you leave no trace.

Uh… the 2009 art theme is Evolution. Tickets are currently on sale on their website for U$280.  Burning Man TV is also available on internet.

And Grace Jones, 60, is triumphantly back. Main attraction of Sónar Night (pics below), one of the headliners at We Love Space in Ibiza this summer. But… has she ever gone away?

XXXperience that!!! May 30, 2009

Outdoor rave parties are, after over a decade out there,  still gaining more and more fans. The very well organized and traditional Xxxperience celebrated its 13th anniversary in Curitiba last weekend. Around 15.000 people danced all day (because nightime rave parties have been forbbiden over here) in a wonderful kinderland mood. A party full of colours, mixing all kinds of people and not dedicated exclusively to psy trance, as it used to traditionally be. The VIP area had Booka Shade (wanna see a VIDEO?) and Audiojack among others, while the main stage saw names as Trentemoller ( to watch him playing from stage, click HERE ) and Robert Babicz. Definitely worth going to!

And here are our nicest pictures, exclusively for you:

Formula 3 Racing Car May 8, 2009

These are sustentability times and engineers from all around are developing non-stop researches on alternative power resources, as ecological as possible. Scientists at the University of Warwick, in the United Kingdom, have developed a Formula 3 racing car powered by chocolate, steered by carrots and which bodywork is made from potatoes. The machine can still  raise 230km/h!

This project shall be one of the most important atractions on the traditional Goodwood Festival of Speed.
