Lovebox in black & white July 26, 2009

Last Saturday and Sunday London had its Lovebox weekender at Victoria Park. The 9th edition (SinK’s first) had sun and rain and sun and rain – in this order – and the Brit restless party spirit that we love so much. Nobody in this world parties like them!!

Two big stages for big and not so big names (Duran Duran, N*E*R*D aka Pharrell Williams, Friendly Fires, Groove Armada, etc.), three amazing electronic instalations by secretsundaze; Disco Bloodbath/ Horse  Meat Disco; and a Rizla into-the-woods space with Xpress-2, Diplo, Bill Brewster and Frank Broughton, Dan Black, etc. Long queues to get in and a lovely disco and funky house vibe.  Amusement park and a Mexico area playing live band and mariachis, with folk Mexican characters and José Cuervo free hats. Coming out from the speakers basically (and thanks God for that!) nu disco, old disco and all kinds of deep funky soulful beats.

Happiness on the dancefloor is no longer a trend; it’s real. All in all, it’s all about feel-good music and having fun, playing around, put your fluo make up on, your wellies and do the d.a.n.c.e.!

In this first coverage, gorgeous black & white photos by Nick Ensing.  Enlarge for proper appreciation!

Disco and vinyls: what a lovely way to boogie! :-)

Visit Nick’s website: www.nickensing.com. Book and exhibition coming up. Cheers, Nick!

The everchanging yellow ball June 30, 2009

Everyone at this point knows that we have a serious crush on secretsundaze, one of London’s coolest parties. Take a close look at their original flyer art (enlarge!) and try not to fall in love either. They transform a plain yellow ball (2009′s first party flyer) into lots of creative images that go changing from party to party. Fab!

Fun in the sun June 30, 2009

FUN, FUN, FUN is the trend also for sunglasses. Forget those boring black monochromatic frames and go for cheap-and-chic red, green, white, yellow, purple, funny ones. See how the coolest party people from Barcelona and London wear the shades we’re talking about and definitely give ‘em a go!  Don’t forget to smile, because atittude counts, hum?!

The photoze May 21, 2009

“Secretsundaze has changed the face of daytime clubbing.”
(Time Out)

Over its six-year history secretsundaze has gained a reputation as one of the most innovative, exciting and fun places to be for house and techno heads and party people alike. Utilising numerous risqué and often open-air venues, they have hosted some of the most colourful parties that London has seen in recent years. With their stylish, hedonistic crowd and their attention to detail on the production side, the parties now have the reputation as being the place that Europe’s finest underground DJs want to play at and Europeans visiting London have to go to. Over the years, the likes of Ame, Ricardo Villalobos, Carl Craig, Tobi Neumann, Trevor Jackson, Luciano, Dan Ghenacia and Steve Bug have all graced the decks.

Next party on 24th May, next Sunday, at the Ministry of Sound courtyard (2-10pm) and, later on (10pm-4am),  at the Coronet Theatre. Secretsundaze opening party photos above  by Dan Hill and fans from their Facebook group page.

If we had clones… February 6, 2009

…we would be in Berlin tomorrow night. Oh yes, we would.

Because…

secretsundaze’s good people will throw a party at Panorama Bar with âme, Giles Smith, James Pirestley and Keith Worthy.

And…

there’s a Film Festival going on over there…

Which means…

it’s gonna be a hellllllll of a party, hey?

HOWEVER,…

as we’re miles away from being bitter, spoiled and jealous little girls – and we shouldn’t actually complain about our party routine lately – we still wish you a good weekend. Especially to those lucky buggers heading to  Am Wriezener Banhof tomorrow nite.

AT LEAST, let us know, will you? ;)

Music is my aeroplane December 12, 2008

Remember that one that goes: “It’s murder on the dancefloor, but you better not kill the groove”? At the point where I though there was absolutely no turning back to my party girl spirit, that it had been killed, suffocated with traces of cruelty, by crap dancefloor music, there they came… along with a new  movement of fresh and soft beats… they’re Todd Terje, Prins Thomas,Lindstrom,  secretsundaze, Tobi Neumann, Hercules and Love Affair, Cut Copy, âme.

With the rise of nu disco, space rave, balearic and all those new and weird names to call the development of deep (house) music in 2008, Sink would like to proudly present to our lovely and smart readers one of the tunes we’re addicted to – of course,  introduce just in case you still don’t know.

Ladies & gentlemen: NOW TIL 69, by Aeroplane:

We’re happy. They brought our hopes back and our hands up in the air again.

(we’ll post the lyrics as soon as we get them, ’cause we know you’ll have the urge to sing out loud after the 3rd time lol)

Oh, and try this one as well:

“The kitsch, pop sensibilities of Belgium DJ duo Aeroplane perfectly summed up the sunnier breeze that blew threw electronic music during 2008. Aeroplane are our top nu disco artists of 2008. “
